RAIN SLOWS COLLEGE GOLFERS

The first day of the 45th annual Virginia Intercollegiate championship at The Homestead's Lower Cascade course was shortened to nine holes Monday because of heavy morning rain in Hot Springs.

The remaining 27 holes of the two-day tournament will be played Tuesday.

Old Dominion is defending champion, but Virginia Tech is consider a favorite to win its 20th title. Also competing are Richmond, James Madison, William and Mary, Liberty, George Mason, Radford and VMI.
