OBIT CHILTON, WILLIAM STEWART
CHILTON, William Stewart, 74, of 1211 Oakwood Street, Bedford, died
Tuesday, September 28, 1993, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was
born in Bedford County on January 1, 1919, a son of the late Theodore H.
Chilton and Berta Franklin Chilton. He was a veteran of World War II, where he
was a recipient of the Purple Heart and was a member of Bedford Baptist Church
for over 40 years. He was employed by Sam Moore Furniture Industries, where he
received recognition for 29 years of perfect work attendance. He was preceded
in death by one brother, Harold Chilton. He is survived by his wife, Margaret
M. Chiton; two daughters, Pamela C. Byers and son-in-law, Bill Byers, Jr.,
Bedford, Marcia C. Knight and son-in-law, Clint Knight, Bedford; one brother,
Glen Chilton, Lynchburg; five sisters, Lois C. Grant, Thaxton, Gerry C.
Laicano, Norfolk, Janice C. Litchfield, Richmond, Norris C. McCormick, Crewe,
Doris C. Brawner, Sieper, La.; one grandson, Caleb Stewart Knight, Bedford. A
funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 1993, at the
Bedford Baptist Church with Dr. Ron R. Blankenship officiating. Burial will
follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bedford Life
Saving Crew. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the
Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
