OBIT HORTON, ELWOOD
HORTON, Elwood, 68, of Kimballton, died Tuesday morning, September 28,
1993,in a Blacksburg hospital. Born in Barren Springs, Va., February 8, 1925,
he was the son of the late John and Maggie Nelson Horton. He was self employed
as a merchant, trucker and businessman in Giles County. He was a veteran of
the U. S. Navy, World War II, a member of Castle Rock Lodge #334 A.F. & A.M.,
Pembroke, and Giles County Shrine Club sanctioned by the Kazim Temple of
Roanoke. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Edwards Horton; one
son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Cammie Horton; one daughter and son-in-law,
Delaine and Lloyd Caldwell; three grandchildren who will greatly miss their
"Papa", Stephanie Caldwell, Ashiley Caldwell and Chadwick Horton; two nieces,
Shirley Nester and Nina Folden. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at
2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, Pembroke, with the Rev. Shahn
Wilburn and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Entombment will be in
Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall
Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Masonic evening services will be
performed at 7 p.m. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be
made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, c/o Kazim Temple, 628 West
Campbell Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24016.
