More than a dozen country music stars from Billy Ray Cyrus to K.T. Oslin will take part in a concert Dec. 1 to raise money to fight AIDS.

"I've lost some very dear friends" to AIDS, Oslin said at a news conference Tuesday.

Others scheduled to perform at the Grand Ole Opry House include Tracy Lawrence, Pam Tillis, Rodney Crowell, Kathy Mattea, Carlene Carter, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Emmylou Harris and the Desert Rose Band.

Tickets cost $25 and $20 and organizers hope to raise $50,000. Proceeds will go to Nashville CARES, an AIDS service organization.

\ Tony Bennett says it made perfect sense to team him with those scruffy rockers, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, at the MTV Music Awards.

The crooner said it's ridiculous to label certain music for certain generations. He and his manager and son Danny "have been carefully trying to close up that generation gap."

"My son puts me on Letterman and all these contemporary shows. I got a big kick out of Flea and Anthony [two of the Chili Peppers] because when we appeared together they had weird outfits and I had this nice suit," he said.

Bennett, 67, said he and the Chili Peppers "hit it off and became good friends," and they told him there are a lot of rock groups who admire his music.

"It's really a thrill that I'm an idol to all of these rock groups, that they consider me cool," he said.

Bennett is appearing through Sunday in Atlantic City with a 23-piece orchestra.

\ Daniel Day-Lewis went right from "The Age of Innocence" to a guilty plea in a British court Monday for speeding on his motorcycle. The Oscar-winning star, who was clocked at more than 100 mph, was banned from driving for a week and fined $235. "I am sorry," he told police. "I have no excuse for driving that fast."
