In attendance at the morning presentation were Cooper's children, Caren, Colin and actor Corbin Bernsen of "L.A. Law," and some of Cooper's friends and "family" from the soap, including Kate Linder (Esther Valentine), Quinn Redeker (Rex Sterling), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Abbott) and her husband, "Y&R" executive producer Edward Scott, and coordinating producer Nancy Bradley Wiard.
Before unveiling Cooper's star, the veteran actress (who created the role of Kay in 1973) was brought up to the podium, where guests paid tribute to her.
Edward Scott hailed Cooper as "the heartbeat of `Y&R.' Today, I'm proud to stand on this historic corner [Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue], the symbol of old Hollywood and its golden age, to honor my shining star and my friend, Jeanne Cooper." Later, the Scotts presented Cooper a beaded evening bag.
Wiard hailed Cooper as "a woman for all seasons. She is loved by toddlers to senior citizens." Then Cooper's sons took turns honoring their famous mother for her 45 years in the business.
When Cooper took the mike, she said, "This boulevard was very significant to me, because this was the path I took. I used to come down Hollywood Boulevard, take a left on Highland, and go to Universal, the first studio I was under contract to. I've seen the town as it was, and I see the town as it's coming back."
\ The 21st annual Daytime Emmy Awards show will be broadcast live on ABC May 25, 1994. This is the third consecutive year the ceremony will be aired in prime time.
