GATES LEADS LORD BOTETOURT PAST COVINGTON

Jenny Gates scored 17 of her 21 points in the second half as Lord Botetourt pounded Covington 52-23 for a non-district girls' basketball victory Wednesday night.

The Cavaliers (6-1) held a 20-6 lead at halftime and coasted the rest of the way.

No player scored in double digits for the Cougars (2-5). \

Narrows 45

Oakvale (W.Va.) 41

NARROWS - Sarah Kellum hit a field goal with 4 seconds left to seal the victory as the Green Wave defeated the Owls in a non-district matchup.

Oakvale (2-3) led 31-27 after three quarters and had an early fourth-period advantage before Narrows rallied to score the last six points. The Green Wave outscored the Owls 18-10 in the quarter.

Melinda Fleeman scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half to spark Narrows (3-5).

Amy Hill had 12 and Heather Cliburne added 10 for Oakvale. \

Carroll County 44

Fieldale-Collinsville 34 COLLINSVILLE - Sheila Bunn scored 13 points

and Carroll County used its depth to defeat Fieldale-Collinsville in a non-district game.

Carroll County, which led 23-12 at halftime, got points from nine players.

Cicely Becker scored 12 points to lead Fieldale-Collinsville (3-5). \
