It comes in quart jars mostly and is made by groups trying to raise money for community and civic projects.
Most of the time you know at least one of the people who stood over a hot fire all day and sometimes night, stirring a big, black kettle. Or you know the folks who picked, peeled and cored the apples. Or those who washed and scalded the jars.
Anyway, Neighbors wants to know about those people and the groups that will be making and selling apple butter this fall.
We plan to run a listing and maybe a couple of recipes on Oct. 14, so send us a note by noon Oct. 1, telling us when you are making apple butter. Please tell us where, what time the activities will take place and if visitors are welcome to watch. You also can tell us how much you charge and where the proceeds go. Be sure to include the name of contact person and daytime telephone number.
Please send this information to Apple Butter, Neighbors, P.O. Box 2491, Roanoke 24010.
Or you can give us this same information by calling the InfoLine at 981-0100, category 7840.
