The North Carolina A&T State University Marching Band will perform Friday during half time at the football game between William Fleming and G.W. Danville high schools.
The 150-member band, directed by Johnny Hodges, also will perform after the game at Victory Stadium. The football game starts at 8 p.m.
The performances are sponsored by the Roanoke Chapter A&T State University Alumni and Fleming.
National Depression Screening Day is Oct. 7
National Depression Screening Day, sponsored by the Mental Health Association of Roanoke Valley, will be observed Oct. 7.
The event is an effort to increase public awareness, reduce the stigma and offer hope to those who suffer from depression.
Free depression screenings will be held, and mental health professionals will give brief talks on the causes, symptoms and treatments of depression. A short video also will be shown, and participants may complete an self-inventory of depression symptoms and discuss the results with a professional.
Screenings will be held at the following sites: Lewis-Gale Psychiatric Center, 1902 Braeburn Drive, Salem, 10 a.m.-noon; Ogden Senior Center, 2932 Ogden Road, Roanoke, 1-3 p.m.; Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center Auditorium, Jefferson Street at McClanahan, 2-4 p.m.; Hollins College, Ballator Gallery, 4-6 p.m.; and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1887 Electric Road, 7-9 p.m.
