SALEM COUPLE TAUGHT ENGLISH AT POLISH CAMP

Ann and Bill Boise of Salem recently taught English in a small community in Poland as part of a team of 18 North American volunteers.

The couple spent two weeks teaching middle school and senior high school students at a summer language camp. They said the experience provided them a closer look at daily life in Poland.

"We realized that it is a prolonged struggle for emerging democracies to advance in education, technology, and in standard of living," Bill Boise said.

The language camp was conducted and sponsored by Global Volunteers, a Minnesota-based private non-profit volunteer organization. Volunteers send teams to Russia and Poland to teach English, as well as business and medical skills. Teams are also scheduled to sites in seven developing countries and the U.S. annually.
