OBIT LONG, MARVIN P.

LONG, Marvin P. ("Bud"), 75, of Pulaski, passed away at Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem, on Saturday, October 2, 1993, of leukemia. He was a retired Associate Professor of New River Community College. Mr. Long was a native Roanoker, graduated from Jefferson High School, received his B.S. degree from Virginia Tech in 1940, and his M.S. from Radford University. After 18 years of association with the American Viscose Corporation, he accepted the position of controller with Jefferson Mills Textiles of Pulaski. He later became Plant Manager with Virginia Maid Hosiery Mill in Pulaski. After being in business for 31 years, Mr. Long became an Associate Professor of Business Management at New River Community College in Dublin. Upon his retirement he was a member of the adjunct faculty until June, 1992. In recognition of his contributions to the College he was honored with the Distinguished Award of Professor Emeritus. He served four years in the United States Army in the Ordinance Division during World War II. He was a past President of the Pulaski Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and Treasurer of the club for many years. He was a member of the Pulaski Science Club, Christ Episcopal Church, and active in many community affairs. Mr. Long was an avid grouse hunter and trout fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Ann Lee McGehee Long of Pulaski; a daughter, Carol Ann Long of Hendersonville, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph B. Long and Virginia B. Long of Petersburg; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 5, 1993, at 11 a.m. from the Christ Episcopal Church, Pulaski with the Rev. Stephen Weston officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke. Visiting will be Monday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30.
