BIKE CLUB PLANS SEVERAL RIDES IN OCTOBER

The New River Valley Bicycle Club has announced its ride schedule for October.

The club will have a half-dozen rides between now and the end of the month, as well as the the weekly social and easy rides.

The social rides will move to Sundays in the second half of October.

A bicycle helmet is required for all riders.

Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult and have a statement signed by a parent for each ride.

The monthly meeting for the club will be Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Blacksburg Branch Library.

The rides for October are listed below:

\ Wednesday: Social Ride. Meet at the Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel on the campus in Blacksburg at 6 p.m.

\ Saturday: Johns Creek Ride. A moderately-paced 49-mile ride through the valleys of Craig County.

Meet at the Level Green Christian Church in Huffman at 1:30 p.m.

\ Sunday: Homeplace Feast. Ride 20 miles to the Homeplace at an easy pace, eat a big meal and then get a ride back (or ride back).

Meet at the Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel on the campus in Blacksburg at 1 p.m.

\ Oct. 13: Social Ride. Meet at the Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel on the campus in Blacksburg at 6 p.m.

\ Oct. 16: Bluefield Century. A fall foliage expedition over virtually flat terrain that will be ridden so everyone finishes the 100 mile trek.

Meet at Wolf Creek Park in Narrows at 9 a.m.

\ Oct. 17: Social Ride and Easy Riders. Meet at the Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel on the campus in Blacksburg at 2 p.m.

\ Oct. 23: Tour du Floyd. A ride on the beautiful back roads of Floyd County. Meet at the Riner Food Center.

\ Oct. 24: Social Ride and Easy Riders. Meet at the Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel on the campus in Blacksburg at 2 p.m.

\ Oct. 30: The Haunted Halloween Moonlight Mystery Ride. A full harvest moon will guide riders through Halloween's ghosts and goblins.
