FREAK ACCIDENT KILLS W.VA. MOTORIST

A 36-year-old West Virginia man was killed Sunday night when a motorcycle engine crashed through the window of his pickup truck and struck him on the head.

Jerry D. Steele of Premier, W.Va., died instantly in the freak accident about 7:30 p.m. on U.S. 52 near Poplar Camp in Wythe County. Two passengers, Steele's wife and mother, were hospitalized.

Trooper Tracey Counts said a car driven by Barbara McPeak Wright, 39, ran over the small engine in the road, causing it to fly into the truck. Wright was not hurt. Authorities are seeking information about how the engine was left in the road.
