BUSH'S SON RUNNING FOR FLA. GOVERNOR

Calling for more prisons and a slowdown in welfare spending, Miami businessman Jeb Bush on Monday officially announced his campaign for governor.

Bush, the son of former President George Bush, has been campaigning and raising money for months. But this week he is making the race official with a statewide fly-around and the opening of his campaign office in Miami today.

Later, expect to see George and Barbara Bush hitting the stump for their son.

"My interest is to gain my own footing first," the younger Bush said. "When I sense it's OK for my parents to come, I'll call in the battleships."

Bush is following his older brother in seeking a GOP gubernatorial nomination for a 1994 race. George W. Bush filed papers last month in the Texas governor's race.
