TERRY KIRBY HAS BIG GAME FOR DOLPHINS, BUT `CAN'T FIND THE END ZONE'

Terry Kirby has a game ball. Now he wants a touchdown.

The rookie rushed for 94 yards and caught three passes for 36 yards Monday night to help the Miami Dolphins beat the Washington Redskins 17-10 at Joe Robbie Stadium.

A third-round draft pick from the University of Virginia, Kirby gave the Dolphins the running attack they usually lack. Teammates appreciated the emergence of a ground threat so much that they awarded him a game ball.

"First one," he said. "It's sweet, but I can't find the end zone."

Kirby has yet to score in the NFL, but no matter. He's helping Miami put points on the board.

"He gave us some spark," said Don Shula, the Dolphins' coach.

"He's going to be a big part of our offense," quarterback Dan Marino said. "He was tonight."

Kirby, starting for the second consecutive week, broke loose for an 18-yard run and caught a 34-yard pass from Marino to set up Miami's second touchdown - a 1-yard run by Mark Higgs.
