NAMES ON CAMPUS

JULIE DENISE GARDNER, daughter of Ray and Wanda Gardner of Riner, recently received a $2,000 Medical Technology Scholarship from the University of Virginia Hospital Auxiliary.

Gardner is a student at Radford University and is currently working on an internship at the University of Virginia Hospital.

\ SHAWN A. DALTON has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Virginia Magistrates Association.

He is the son of Earl and Linda Dalton of Max Meadows.

\ DONALD DEDMON, Radford's president, was listed 89th in a study in the journal of "Communication Education" listing the top 100 active scholars in his field.

Dedmon is a communications expert and has served as president of Radford University since 1972.

\ JENNIFER KELLOGG was named to the Dean's List and the Big South (NCAA) Conference Presidential Honor Roll for Women's Golf for 1992-93.

She is a sophomore at Radford, and the daughter of David and Pat Kellogg of Blacksburg.

Junior finance major DALE GILLAM recently was notified that he was the millionth student-loan recipient in Virginia.

First Virginia Bank celebrated the occasion by giving Gillam a $250 savings account and a basket of food.

Student loans have allowed over 10,000 Virginia students to afford a college education at a total of $42.9 million.

Computer science professor J. DANA ECKART and geography professor BERND KUENNECKE have been selected to take part in a NASA program called JOVE.

The program will supply $110,000 to the University, $54,000 of which will be used for student scholarships over the next three years. The program will help both professors pursue research in their areas of study.

Political science professor MATTHEW FRANCK was one of 40 scholars named 1993-95 Henry J. Salvatori Fellows of the Heritage Foundation.

\ JERRY HUTCHENS, director of university advancement, and H.S. JOHNSTON, director of financial aid, were awarded $12,690 by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia to direct the Emminent Student Scholars Program.

The program provides tuition assistance for Virginia college students.
