BLACKSBURG CABLE DROPS PREMIUM SERVICE TO TECH

As of midnight Sunday, Blacksburg Cable TV will no longer deliver Home Box Office, Showtime and Cinemax to Virginia Tech Campus subscribers. Blacksburg Cable General Manager Jim Corrin said that changes in federal cable regulations prohibit the company from delivering to customers any channel above the basic service level unless it already provides the basic service.

``Blacksburg Cable TV doesn't provide basic service to Virginia Tech, so the decision to discontinue our on-campus premium service business is solely based on our desire to comply with the law,'' Corrin said in a statement.

On-campus customers will be able to swap their Blacksburg Cable TV converter boxes for Virginia Tech-owned converters on Monday and Tuesday at Student Telecommunications at 128 Burruss Hall.
