Locals are braced as the Kennedy family, followed by media hordes, flocks in for the wedding of Edward Kennedy Jr. this weekend on Block Island, R.I.

The son of Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., is to marry Katherine Anne Gershman on Sunday.

About 300 guests will invade the tranquil island for the private, four-day celebration that begins today.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, John Kennedy Jr. and Daryl Hannah, and Maria Shriver and husband Arnold Schwarzenegger are among the invited guests.

"Just another couple of people getting married," grumbled Ralph Derby, who works at an information booth on the island. "Don't know what the big deal is."

The 32-year-old groom attends the University of Connecticut School of Law. Gershman, 34, is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Yale University and has a private practice in New Haven.

Graham Nash, on the $1.5 million he took from Fruit of the Loom to use his song "Teach Your Children" in a commercial: "Some musicians have been outraged, some have been jealous. I'm not that precious about my music. We're not talking Mozart here."
