POSTAL DOCK FALLS, KILLS EMPLOYEE

A postal worker died Thursday from injuries sustained Sunday when a dock collapsed and fell on him, officials said.

Kenneth Garska, 38, of Earlysville died about 5 a.m. at the University of Virginia Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Garska had been brought to the hospital Sunday afternoon after being injured at the main Post Office, where he worked.

According to Charlottesville police, the spring-leveling dock Garska was using was capable of moving up and down, but wooden supports intended to hold up the dock gave way. A fellow worker described the dock as a 1-ton metal platform.
