trespassing and breaking and entering with intent to commit arson, said Lt. Doug Marrs of the Christiansburg police.
The fire was discovered Monday at about 5:45 p.m. at 730 Lawn Drive in Christiansburg. Authorities estimated about $50,000 damage.
Clay, who was arrested Wednesday, is being held in Montgomery County Jail. Nobond had been set Friday.
Authorities said the house was the residence of a woman who had previously dated Clay. The woman's lawyer had sent Clay a letter advising him to stay away from her.
