MAN FACES ARSON CHARGE AFTER HOUSE FIRE

A Hurt man has been charged with arson in a Monday house fire in Christiansburg. Carter Monroe Clay, 41, has also been charged with

trespassing and breaking and entering with intent to commit arson, said Lt. Doug Marrs of the Christiansburg police.

The fire was discovered Monday at about 5:45 p.m. at 730 Lawn Drive in Christiansburg. Authorities estimated about $50,000 damage.

Clay, who was arrested Wednesday, is being held in Montgomery County Jail. Nobond had been set Friday.

Authorities said the house was the residence of a woman who had previously dated Clay. The woman's lawyer had sent Clay a letter advising him to stay away from her.
