WARRIORS WHIP TROJANS 41-0

Evan Penn rushed 13 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns as undefeated Magna Vista pounded Tunstall 41-0 in a Piedmont District high school football game Friday night.

Penn had touchdown runs of 10 and 2 yards, ran for two 2-point conversions and kicked a field goal for the Warriors (5-0 overall, 4-0 in the district). Teammate Jermaine Simmons carried 12 times for 75 yards and a touchdown as the Warriors rolled up 287 yards rushing.

Tunstall (3-2, 2-2) had 214 yards of total offense but couldn't get past Magna Vista's defense. \

Auburn 21

Grayson County 3

RINER - The Eagles limited the Blue Devils (3-3, 2-2) to 80 yards of total offense in the Mountain Empire District victory.

Auburn (2-3, 2-2) got all the points it would need on a 33-yard touchdown run by David Hughes in the first quarter. Hughes finished with 61 rushing yards on seven carries.

Bobby Bonds and B.J. Lumia also scored for the Eagles. Bonds led Auburn with 71 yards on 11 carries. \

Buckingham 22

Staunton River 18

MONETA - Buckingham County rallied twice for its first victory of the season, defeating Staunton River in a battle of previously winless Seminole District teams.

Staunton River (0-5 overall, 0-5 in the district), took the lead twice in the game. Carlos Hurt's 10-yard run put the Golden Eagles ahead 12-8 with 7:54 left in the first half, but Buckingham scored with 6:02 left in the third quarter for a 16-12 lead.

Staunton River's Dwight Orange scored on a 1-yard run with 11:55 left in the game, but Buckingham came back with a touchdown more than six minutes later.

Staunton River failed on a fourth-and-5 from its 36 and Buckingham (1-5, 1-5) ran out the clock.

Jeff English had 96 yards on 11 rushes for Staunton River. \

Rockbridge County 48

Covington 6

LEXINGTON - Brandon Brissell scored the first 15 points of the game, and the host Wildcats went on to smash the Cougars in a non-district game.

Rockbridge County (4-2) rolled up more than 500 yards of total offense. Covington remains winless at 0-5. \
