WPSK GOES LIVE FOR FUND-RAISER

Announcers from country music station WPSK (107.1 FM) hope to raise thousands of dollars this weekend to help area unemployed and needy families at Christmas by broadcasting live from the roof of the New River Valley Mall.

The 48-hour radiothon, which started Friday at 1:07 p.m., hopes to surpass the $10,000 in pledges the station garnered last year when it staged a similar event, a station spokesman said.

``We'll be up there under any weather conditions. Rain or cold won't stop us,'' he said.

Money raised will be channeled through area United Way or ganizations.

Blue Ridge Cellular has donated the use of a bank of cellular telephones, so rooftop volunteers can take pledge calls.
