SUPPORT YOUR LIBRARY; IT EDUCATES EVERYONE

The National League of Women Voters adopts positions after lengthy study and consensus of members. One of its positions says it supports equal access to education, employment and housing. The board of directors of the Montgomery County league thinks equal access to education certainly includes public libraries that offer self-education to anyone, regardless of age, sex, race or creed.

Come to the public library to find:

1. How to repair a faucet, an electrical outlet, a bicycle or appliances.

2. How to be your own interior decorator or flower arranger.

3. Treatment of a plant disease or insect infestation.

4. Recipes for a dish favored by an expected houseguest.

5. Children's books.

6. Large-print books when your sight is failing.

7. Pleasure reading.

8. Consumer information.

The free public library is a foundation block of our democratic society. Knowledge is power, and knowledge is what the public library furnishes to everyone who wants it. The public library blesses people who have never even walked inside the doors, because it benefits all who use it and they enrich the community.

But libraries need periodic renovation and more space to improve their resources if they are to serve the public properly. The league, therefore, urges voters at the Nov. 2 election to consider these values when they decide the proposed bond issue for the library.\ Nadine Newcomb,\ President\ League of Women Voters of Montgomery County
