Tony Callahan ran for two touchdowns as George Wythe rolled over host Galax 41-14 in a non-district high school football game Friday night.

The Maroon Tide (1-4), ranked 10th in Timesland, led 7-6 lead, but the Maroons (5-0) rolled off 35 straight points to blow open the game.

BLAND - The Buffaloes put together two long scoring drives in the third quarter to defeat the host Bears in a Mountain Empire District game.

Bland County (2-4 overall, 0-3 in the district) scored 17 second-quarter points in a span of nine minutes to take a two-point halftime lead.

But Floyd's first second-half drive covered 57 yards in 4:09 and ended with Winky Nichols' 1-yard run. The Buffaloes then drove 75 yards, using about 7 1/2 minutes, and went ahead when Jason Pratt scored on a 25-yard run.

Jamie Warren had 13 carries for 75 yards for Floyd (not including his 60-yard kick return for a touchdown), and Nichols had 12 carries for 63 yards. For Bland County, John Stinson had 13 rushes for 81 yards and Joe Cromer 11 for 75. \

Martinsville 35

MARTINSVILLE - Manti Venable scored three of his four touchdowns in the second half as the Bulldogs (5-0, 4-0) remained unbeaten with a Piedmont District victory over the Cougars (3-2, 2-2).

The score was 7-7 when Martinsville got a 75-yard punt return by McQuail Gravely for a touchdown that started the Bulldogs on the way to a 35-7 lead.

Patrick County's Charles McLain and Venable each rushed for more than 100 yards. It was the Cougars' second straight loss. \

Chatham 27

Laurel Park 22

CHATHAM - Derick Logan rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries as the Cavaliers edged the Lancers in a Piedmont District game. Laurel Park (2-3, 1-3) had leads of 14-0 and 20-14, but each time Chatham (3-2, 2-2) stormed back. Deshannon Adams led the Lancers with 132 yards rushing on 25 carries. \

Dan River 26

Fieldale-Collinsville 0

RINGGOLD - Erick Ferguson threw three touchdown passes - two to Phillip Walker - as the Wildcats whipped the Cavaliers in a Piedmont District game. Dan River (3-2, 2-2) led 19-0 at halftime, and Fieldale-Collinsville (2-3, 2-2) never recovered. \

Liberty 17

Jefferson Forest 14

BEDFORD - The host Minutemen upset the defending Group AA Division 3 state champion Cavaliers (4-1, 4-1) in a Seminole District game before a howling standing-room-only audience.

Liberty (5-1, 5-1) stopped a fourth-down desperation run for the end zone by Jefferson Forest's Billy Smith at its own 29 with no time left.

The Minutemen had one turnover, an interception, but Jefferson Forest fumbled five times and lost four. The Cavs committed 50 yards worth of penalties. Liberty was docked 10.

The Cavaliers' wishbone stomped out 229 rushing yards and gained 18 first downs to Liberty's 10. Leading the way was Smith with 171 yards on 24 carries.

Liberty hadn't defeated county rival Jefferson Forest since 1988. \
