MCGUIRE WINS AGAIN

Tim McGuire won his fourth Late Model Stock Car race of the season Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway.

In distance, it was his shortest win of 1993, but in elapsed time from start to finish it was his longest.

Intermittent showers eventually forced the race to be called an hour and a half after the green flag fell. Twenty-six of the scheduled 50 laps had been completed.

McGuire started on the pole and led through three caution periods. Bobby Radford placed second, and Rick Sigmon was third. Rodney Cundiff and Harvey Harrison finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Since the FCS season started in April, no race has been completely canceled, although two weeks ago weather forced the race to be postponed until Sunday.

In other races Saturday night:

Gary Clifton, rested after a 30-minute rain delay during the race, won the Rookie competition. Josh Ingram narrowly beat points leader Gary Clifton to the flag for second.

In a very tight Pure Stock race, Leon Moles shadowed points leader R.W. Lawhorn for 23 laps and then outran him on the last two. Lawhorn finished second, and Red Hartman was third.

Mike Dudley won the Street Stock division, holding off Jimmy Mullins (second) and Lonnie Foley (third). The victory was Dudley's first outright this season, although he was awarded a win Sept. 18 when the first- and second-place finishers were disqualified.

The Mini Stock and Any Car races were postponed because of the rain. The $1,000 Any Car prize will carry over to next week.
