BOTETOURT PLAYER TO W&M

Jenny Gates, the first Lord Botetourt girls' basketball player to score 1,000 points in a career, has accepted a grant-in-aid to William and Mary.

"It's been a dream of mine for quite a while," said Gates, whose father, Marshall, and several other relatives are William and Mary alumni.

Gates, a 6-foot-1 forward, was a first-team All-Blue Ridge District choice last year and has averaged 16.2 points in helping Lord Botetourt to a 12-1 record this season.

Gates, who has a 3.4 grade average, has met NCAA academic standards and will sign during the week of Nov. 10-17.
