OBIT HUGHES, MILDRED KENNETT
HUGHES, Mildred Kennett, 87, of Salem, died Friday, October 8, 1993, at
Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hughes was born on June 4, 1906, in Dayton,
Ohio and first moved to the Salem area in 1936 with her husband, the late
William T. ("Red") Hughes Sr. She was a retired loan guaranty clerk at the
Veteran's Administration Regional Office in Roanoke. She was a member of the
First United Methodist Church of Salem. Survivors include two sons, W. T.
Hughes Jr. of Monticello, Ga. and Richard M. Hughes of Salem; a
daughter-in-law, Juanita F. Hughes of Salem; six grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren. The Rev. Thomas L. Joyce will officiate at the graveside
service scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. The
family will receive visitors at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem
from 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers,
memorial gifts be made to the First United Methodist Church of Salem.
