SOCIALIST PARTY RETURNS TO POWER IN GREECE

Andreas Papandreou and his socialist party made a dramatic political comeback Sunday after voters rejected the conservative government's painful austerity measures.

The victory marked a personal triumph for the charismatic Papandreou, whose career seemed almost at an end in 1989 when he was ousted at the polls over financial and personal scandals.

Clearly upset, Premier Constantine Mitsotakis conceded defeat to Papandreou on Sunday evening after voting returns showed the socialists winning a clear majority in parliament. - Associated Press
