Glisson also will be on hand the next day for a second grand opening celebration (she was at the first one late last month, too) at the Virginia Tech Adult Day Care Center for family caregivers and professionals. The "open house" Oct. 28, 2-3:30 p.m. at the center, 102 Wallace Hall on the Tech campus, will include tours, a slide show, service information and refreshments.
While at Tech, Glisson was a volunteer at the center. During her reign as Miss Virginia, she has made promotion of adult day-care centers a focal point.

"Mental Illness in the Elderly" is the topic of today's LUNCHTIME FORUM, sponsored by the Virginia Tech Center for Gerontology. The forum gets under way at noon in 150 Squires Student Center on the Tech campus.
Dr. David Trinkle, assistant professor of psychiatric medicine at the University of Virginia, will lead the discussion.

\ HEALTH CARE REFORM will be among the topics during a workshop on economic security Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Sheraton Inn Roanoke Airport. FYI: The American Association of Retired Persons is the oldest and largest organization of older Americans, with a membership of more than 33 million seniors. Membership is open to anyone age 50 or older, working or retired. It was founded in 1958 by the late Ethel Percy Andrus. Its headquarters are in Washington, D.C.

This is a two-day, state-approved classroom driver-improvement program designed to help older drivers update their driving knowledge and skills. It reviews rules of the road, talks about age-related physical changes which affect driving skills and focuses on defensive driving techniques.
