GLENVAR WINS REGION C GOLF CROWN

Paced by Nick Varney's 6-over-par 77, Glenvar fired a team total of 324 at Countryside to claim its third-straight Group A Region C golf crown Tuesday afternoon.

Tommy Lesprance's 81 was sixth overall and Ray Harrell and Chad Yeatts tied for seventh with 83s for the Highlanders.

Both Glenvar and second-place Giles (329) advance to the state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Lonesome Pine Country Club in Big Stone Gap.

The medalist was Andrew Wagner of Giles, who had a 1-under-par 34 over the final nine holes to finish with a 75. Second went to David McCall of Giles, who defeated Varney in an extra hole. Adam Breeding of Lebanon was third after the playoff.

Also going to state as individuals are Jon Ervin (79) and Brian Love (84) of George Wythe; Dustin Grace of Patrick Henry-Glade Spring; and Jason Delp of PH and Jeff Troy of George Wythe, who defeated Jamie McElwee of Bath County and Keith Ray of Lebanon for the fifth and sixth individual slots. Midfielder Dustin Fonder scored two goals to extend his scoring streak to 13 games as Roanoke defeated visiting Bluefield 3-0 in a college men's soccer match at River's Edge Park. The Maroons (13-1) tied a school record of 13 victories and set a record with 10 shutouts in a season.

John Kingery had a pair of goals to lead Roanoke Valley Christian (6-1-1 overall, 5-1 Virginia Independent Conference) to a 5-1 victory over visiting Randolph-Macon (4-6, 3-5) in high school boys' soccer.
