NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS ERIC L. BURFORD, son of Andrew M. Burford and Frances E. Tyree, both of Roanoke, has returned from "Baltops 93" (Baltic Sea Operations) aboard the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto, based in Norfolk.

\ MARINE PVT. CHRISTOPHER L. SYNDER, son of Barry L. and Debbie E. Snyder of 4726 Player Drive, has completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C.

He is a 1992 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ MARINE CPL. WINSTON G. THURMAN, son of Robert W. Thurman of 1112 Tipton Ave., has started a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment as part of the USS America Joint Task Group.

The 1990 graduate of Patrick Henry High School is stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

\ NAVY AIRMAN APPRENTICE JOE N. GAYTOPS, son of Lottie M. Gaytops of 1021 Rockland Ave. N.W., recently returned from a six-month Mediterranean and Red Sea deployment aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, based in Norfolk. He is a 1990 graduate of William Fleming High School.
