Adult-care providers seeks award nominees

The Southwest Virginia Homes for Adults Advisory Council is seeking nominations for its third annual Provider of the Year award.

The award has been established to recognize those providers who excel in caring for their residents and enriching their communities.

Individuals who have family members or friends living in a home for adults that is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services, and residents, staff members or others with an interest in the program are invited to submit nominations.

Roanoker in Job Corps participates in parade

Aen Thongsvhan, 19, of Roanoke was one of 27 Region III Job Corps students who took part in the Parade of Americas along Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 19.

The parade was the finale of a weekend of events marking Hispanic Heritage Month. It was sponsored by Parade of the Americans, a non-profit corporation composed of traditional, cultural and artistic groups representing 22 nations.

Thongsvhan, who is in the Job Corps' security training program, served in the color guard.
