OKTOBERFEST SET AT MOUNTAIN LAKE

The Giles County Chamber of Commerce "Oktoberfest" will bring a little German flavor to the mountains of Southwest Virginia this evening. The event gets under way at 5:30 p.m. at Mountain Lake resort with a biergarten, featuring German beers, wines and spiced cider.

The main feast, 6:30-8:30 p.m., will include both cold and hot banquet tables and a variety of traditional Teutonic specialties, including sauerbraten, caraway kraut, hot potato salad and Black Forest ham.

Desserts include black cherry chocolate cake and glazed apple strudel.

The sounds of The Sauerkraut Band, a genuine German "oompah" ensemble, will round out the evening.

Tickets still are available at $20 per person. Dress is casual, and door prizes will be awarded. For tickets, visit the Giles County Chamber of Commerce, 604 Wenonah Ave.
