FDA APPROVES IMPLANT FOR URINARY INCONTINENCE

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new injectable implant made of a natural protein that can help many people with urinary incontinence stay dry.

It will give many sufferers a nonsurgical alternative to treat what is often an embarrassing problem that afflicts elderly women in particular.

The FDA estimates that 1 million to 2 million Americans suffer from the type of incontinence that could be helped by the new device, called the Contigen implant, spokeswoman Sharon Snyder said.
