Michael Dawkins, general manager for IBM in Manassas, said Tuesday he hoped the institute would improve Prince William County's quality of life. The 120-acre institute is to open in 1996 and eventually will have an enrollment of up to 8,000 graduate students, according to the school.
James Fonseca, director of the Prince William Institute, said the university expects to open a $13 million, 100,000-square-foot building for 1,000 students in August 1996. The money to build the institute was approved by voters as part of a Virginia bond referendum last November.
The institute will offer master's degree programs in education, public administration, urban planning and either biotechnology or environmental management, Fonseca said.
