SHULER GETS EDUCATION PAC APPROVAL

The Montgomery County Education Association's political action committee will endorse 12th District House of Delegates candidate Jim Shuler on Friday, according to a Virginia Education Association official.

The MCEA and VEA's political action committees surveyed and interviewed Democrat Shuler and his GOP opponent, Nick Rush, said Marshall Lietch of the VEA office in Radford.

Committee officials will explain their endorsement at 4 p.m. Friday at South Main and Eheart streets, near Blacksburg Middle School.

The groups have surveyed the three Montgomery Board of Supervisors races but have made no endorsements. They earlier endorsed both 8th District House of Delegates candidates, Democrat Howard Packett and Republican Morgan Griffith. The 8th District includes much of eastern and southwestern Montgomery.

The political action committees are affiliated with the association that represents 80 percent of Montgomery County's public school teachers, but conduct their interviews and endorsements independently, Lietch said.
