VA. BLUES TO PROVIDE PREVENTIVE-CARE PLAN

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia will provide its small-business customers with preventive-care coverage at no additional cost starting this month.

Small businesses enrolled with the insurer will receive the new benefit at renewal, the company said Thursday.

Screenings for breast cancer, high blood pressure, colon cancer, coronary artery disease and cervical cancer will become standard benefits in the coming year for more than 100,000 Virginians insured through groups of two to 49 employees.

Michael J. Manley, executive vice president for small group accounts, said preventive care gives people an opportunity to take responsibility for their own health. - Staff report
