CAVALIERS WHITEWASH CORNELL

In Charlottesville, Nate Friends scored two goals, and Damian Silvera had a goal and two assists as Virginia whipped Cornell 4-0 on Friday in the opening round of the Lanzera/Sheraton Classic men's soccer tournament.

The Cavaliers play Brown, a 2-1 winner Friday over 10th-ranked North Carolina, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

In other soccer:

In Ferrum, Bridgewater used two second-half goals to beat Ferrum in a non-conference men's game. Danny Bunch gave the Panthers (4-12) a 1-0 halftime lead, but Bridgewater (2-10) shut down Ferrum in the second half.

In Louisville, Ky., Jason Richards scored twice as Louisville bolted to a 4-0 lead en route to a 4-2 victory over Virginia Tech in Metro Conference men's action.

Brian Reaves and Jason Entlich scored for the Hokies (7-5, 0-2). Louisville is 2-9-2.

In Charlottesville, 14th-ranked Wisconsin jumped to a 2-0 halftime lead en route to a 2-1 victory over 17th-ranked Virginia in a non-conference women's game. The Cavaliers are 5-6-1; the Badgers are 11-2. In Blacksburg, Jennifer Scudamore scored on a breakaway with three minutes left in the second overtime to give Gardner-Webb a 2-2 tie with Virginia Tech in a non-conference women's match.

Shannon Mullen and Tisha Truman scored for the Hokies (6-5-1). Gardner-Webb is 6-7-2.

In Radford, Monmouth and Radford battled to a scoreless draw in women's action. Amy Pseja made eight saves en route to the shutout for the Highlanders (11-1-2); The Hawks are 7-5-1.
