FERRUM TOPPLES CHOWAN

Ferrum bolted to a 27-point lead and its ground game did the rest, rolling up 353 yards as the Panthers routed Chowan 49-21 on Saturday in a non-conference college football game.

Levi Frye gained 64 yards on the ground and scored four touchdowns for the Panthers (3-3). Eric Bates rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, and David Anthony rumbled for 110 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Chowan closed to 27-14 early in the third quarter, but the Panthers responded by moving 94 yards in 10 plays, highlighted by a 44-yard pass from quarterback Millard Vining to James Williams. Frye's 1-yard scoring run capped the drive.

Vining was 10-of-11 passing for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Williams caught seven of those passes for 120 yards and a touchdown.

Chowan was led by quarterback Brian Goff, who completed 18 of 30 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns. \
