ROANOKE CYCLIST WINS MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE

In Fayetteville, W.Va., Roanoke's Ed Dickenson of Team Redline/East Coasters defeated 149 other riders and won the Babcock Fall Challenge mountain bike race, the final event in the West Virginia Championship Series.

At Kingsport, Tenn., the Roanoke Star Under-10 girls' soccer team placed second over the weekend at the Appalachian Fall Festival Tournament. The team had a 2-1 record, beating Knoxville 3-0 and Johnson City 5-0. Goalkeepers Reagan Woodhall and Jessie Roche combined for the shutouts. Carlie Smith and Lauren Doss scored two goals each for the Star.
