OBIT PAYNE, GLENN ADDISON
PAYNE, Glenn Addison, 63, died Saturday, October 16, 1993, at his home in
Montebello. Born in Nelson County May 14, 1930, he was a son of the late
Adison Rucker and Marian Parr Payne. He was the husband of Louise Harvey
Payne. He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Addison Payne Jr. Mr. Payne
was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, and was second generation
owner of Payne's Garage in Piney River. In October 1986, Mr. Payne was voted
Nelson County's Businessman of the Year by the Nelson County Chamber of
Commerce. He was a member of Fleetwood-Harmony Masonic Lodge and was an Air
Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. In addition to his wife, survivors
include two sons, Robert T. (Bob) Payne and wife, Lynn of Roseland, Charles R.
Payne and wife, Susan of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Kay Payne Staton and
husband, Carroll (Dee) of Lexington, and Ann Rucker Payne of Roseland; three
brothers, Robert R. Payne of Fairfax, George C. Payne of Amherst and John E.
Payne of Midlothian; two sisters, Ann J. Payne of Lynchburg and Elizabeth P.
Slaughter of Tye River; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be
conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, in Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by the
Rev. Benjamin Burks, with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will
receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday, and at other
times at their home in Roseland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the Roseland Rescue Squad.
