OBIT SMOOT, JAMES

SMOOT, James, ("J.C."), 61, of Lynchburg, died Friday, October 15, 1993, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley M. Smoot. Born in Campbell County, he was the son of the late Rev. Clarence E. Smoot and Jessie Bolton Smoot. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Timberlake Christian Church, and Elks Lodge 321. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Todd Smoot, Forest, Va.; a daughter, Elizabeth Smooth Sligh of Lynchburg; a daughter-in-law, Tamara D. Smoot of Forest, Va.; a sister, Betty Smoot Austin of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Sligh and James Tyler Smoot; a brother-in-law, James Rudy Austin; two nephews, James Andrew Austin and Edward Scott Austin; and a niece, Bethany Campbell Austin. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Robert Mooty officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Baptist Hospital, Home Health, 3300 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, Va. 24503. Arrangements by Duiguid's Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
