SPARTANS SLIP PAST NORTHSIDE

Salem's Shellie Johnson scored a game-high 15 points, but it was her last two that mattered most Tuesday night.

Johnson converted an inbounds play with about 15 seconds left to give the Spartans a 44-43 Blue Ridge District girls' basketball victory over visiting Northside.

Heather Moore added 11 points for the Spartans.

Shannon Yopp led the Vikings with 12 points. \

Toree Morris scored 25 points to lead the Highlanders past the visiting Rockets as Glenvar remained undefeated in the Pioneer District.

Morris scored 14 of her team's 16 points in the first quarter and had 21 by halftime. Marilea Hale chipped in 13 and Kristi Robinson had nine assists for the Highlanders (13-3, 8-0).

With 17 points, Chrissy Robertson was the lone double-digits scorer for Craig County (4-9, 3-5). \

BUCHANAN - Stephanie Rhodes scored 24 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Fighting Blues defeated the Knights in a Pioneer District game.

Parry McCluer (8-6, 5-3) took advantage of poor shooting by James River in the second half and maintained a five-point halftime margin.

The Knights (7-8, 5-2) were paced by Angie Johnson's 11 points. \
