OBIT LANFORD, ELOISE MILLER
LANFORD, Eloise Miller, 87, of 6509 Carefree Lane, Roanoke, died Monday,
October 18, 1993. Eloise was born in Apple Grove, Va., a daughter of Oscar and
Ruth Miller Lanford. During World War II, she was chief nurse of the Army
Field Hospital in Okinawa, and in the post war era she was chief nurse at
several veteran's administration hospitals. She received a BS Degree from the
University of Virginia School of Nursing and served as superintendent of
nursing at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Richmond and also served two terms on
the State Board of Nursing Examiners. She retired from the Veteran's
Administration Central Office in Washington, D.C. She was a member of Grace
United Methodist Church in Manassas, Va. Miss Lanford is survived by her
sister, Carrie, with whom she resided; two other sisters, Pauline Lanford
Stoner, Woodbury, N.J., Ossie Lanford Tipton, Roanoke; a brother, Dr. Oscar
Lanford and his wife, Esther, Castleton, N.Y.; also a number of nieces and
nephews. Graveside services will be held in Stonewall Memory Gardens,
Manassas, Va., on Thursday, October 21, at 2 p.m. with Dr. John T. Martin
officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hollins #5
Rescue Squad, 7401 Barrens Rd., Roanoke, Va. 24019, in her memory. There will
be no visitation. Oakey's North Chapel handling funeral arrangements.
