OBIT HARRIS, EMMA MAYHEW
HARRIS, Emma Mayhew, 86, of Moneta, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 1993,
at her residence. She was born May 7, 1907 in Bedford County, a daughter of
the late John Quincy Mayhew and Lula Carter Mayhew. Her husband was the late
Clarence Pitman Harris. She was a retired employee of the Bedford Dress
Factory and was a member of the Moneta Church of God of Prophecy. She is
survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, C. W. and Shirley Harris,
Lynchburg, Rev. Melvin and Mimie Harris, Huddleston, Charlie and Flo Harris,
Moneta; five daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Coolidge Ellis, Peggy and
Wayne Johnson, both of Moneta, Vivian and Carl Cassell, Madison Heights, Donna
and Wayne Wright, Lynchburg, Betty Phillips, Norfolk; two sisters, Addie M.
Kendrick, Bedford, Elzie M. Schlosser, Roanoke; one brother, Dewey Kendrick,
Salem; special friends, Bill Wattai, Helene King, both of Norfolk; 12
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted
Thursday, October 21, 1993, at 2 p.m. from the Moneta Church of God of
Prophecy, by the Rev. Sam Hall. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem United
Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9
p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.
