RELIGION BRIEFS

OUR LADY OF NAZARETH CATHOLIC CHURCH will mark its 80th anniversary on March 27, 1994. Instead of the several weekend Masses, the parish will celebrate with one service at 10 a.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center auditorium.

For many years, members worshiped in the Roanoke West End building now occupied by RAM House. They moved to 2505 Electric Road S.W. in 1976.

\ PRESBYTERIANS FOR HABITAT, a group of workers from several Roanoke Valley congregations, have dedicated the second house they have built over the past two years. It is at 904 Kellogg Ave. N.W.

\ GRETA EVANS, Roanoke TV personality, will be the speaker when Church Women United meet for World Community Day on Nov. 5.

"The Ecumenical Decade" will be the theme for the 10:30 a.m. gathering at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, 1837 Grandin Road S.W. Reservations for a $3.50 lunch after the meeting are needed by Nov. 1. Call 344-2103.

Evans will be joined by a panel of other women.

\ A LEADERSHIP TRAINING SCHOOL is planned Oct. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Hollins. Classes will be offered for Sunday school teachers and other church leaders and in youth evangelism. Call 366-2106 for more information.

\ BISHOP FRANK H. VEST, spiritual leader of Episcopalians in the Diocese of Southern Virginia, will preach at an evensong service Sunday at 6 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Elm Avenue at South Jefferson Street in downtown Roanoke. Vest is a former assistant rector of St. John's and also served Christ Episcopal in Roanoke as rector. He now lives in Norfolk.

\ THE REV. DOYAL SPENCE, minister of music at First Baptist Church in downtown Roanoke for more than 25 years, has been named Church Musician of 1993. The honor was given at the recent Virginia Baptist State Music Conference.

Spence is active in The Centurymen and the Virginia Baptist Male Chorale, singing groups that have traveled internationally.

\ BETHLEHEM BAPTIST CHURCH, 3017 Ivyland Road S.E., will celebrate its 113th anniversary Sunday with services at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Guest leaders for the later worship will be the Rev. Lee E. Suggs and the choir of Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church in Christiansburg.
