Tuesday's games
\ Liberty 57, Nelson County 55: At Lovingston, Kelly Whorley made two free throws with nine seconds remaining to lift the Minettes to a Seminole District victory over the league-leading Governors.
Whorley finished with a team-high 20 points. Amy Baxter added 11 for Liberty (12-3).
Nelson County (12-2), which dropped into a tie with Staunton River for the district lead, was led by Stephanie Spencer with 19 points and Lajaiah Miles with 16. \
Staunton River 56, Appomattox 54: At Appomattox, Charity Bryant made a stickback at the buzzer that gave the Golden Eagles a Seminole District victory over the Raiders.
Tanya Nelms scored 22 points, including five 3-pointers, a school record for 3-pointers in a game. The previous record of four was held by Kim Wainwright (1990) and Camilla Dellis (1988).
Courtney Hurd added 12 points for Staunton River (12-2 overall and district). The Eagles are tied with Nelson County for the lead in the Seminole District.
Appomattox (8-5 overall) was paced by Stephanie Robinson with 23 points and Lynette Baker with 17.
On Monday, Staunton River traveled to Rustburg and took a 74-31 district victory over the Devils. Nelms scored 24 points and Missy Foxx added 11.
