COALITION REPORTS INCREASING ABUSE

Virginians Against Domestic Violence tracks the number of requests for services from its 38 affiliates, including the women's center in Roanoke.

In Virginia, for the 12 months ending June 30:

25,922 women requested services, up from 24,184 in 1992.

183 men requested services, up from 158 in 1992.

3,148 abusers requested services, up from 1,954 in 1992.

The number of programs that assist victims of domestic violence in Virginia has risen from 30 in 1984 to 38.
