OBIT WERTZ, WILLIE
WERTZ, Willie, ("Bill"), 76, of Salem, died Wednesday, October 20, 1993, at
Lewis-Gale Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Wertz was a retired supervisor
for General Telephone Electronics Company with 20 years service. He was a
member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Jay Blake Sunday School Class and also a
World War II army veteran. He was preceded in death by a stepgranddaughter,
Angela Sivills; a brother, Dillard Wertz; and a sister, Frances Carroll.
Survivors include his wife, Fern W. Wertz; one stepson, Rev. Ronald Stephenson
of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Paulette Wolfe of Salem; two
brothers, Herman Wertz of Roanoke, Glenn Wertz of Rocky Mount; eight
granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on
Friday, October 22, 1993, 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. R.
Stuart Carlton. Burial will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Park. The family
will receive friends after 2 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, 503
Libbie Ave., Suite 1A, Richmond, Va. 23226 or the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box
291, Salem, Va. 24153 or to the Bethel Baptist Church, 1601 Colorado St.,
