$20.9 MILLION OK'D FOR CLEANUP OF BAY

More than $22 million for cleanup of the Chesapeake Bay and research of oyster diseases is contained in two bills now headed to the U.S. Senate.

The Environmental Protection Agency Appropriations Act for 1994 contains $20.9 million for bay cleanup and the Department of Commerce Appropriations Act contains $1.5 million for oyster research, said Dan Scandling, a spokesman for Rep. Herbert Bateman, a Republican from Newport News, Va.

The House passed both measures Tuesday. They could be voted on by the Senate as early as next week, Scandling said.

Both measures are expected to pass easily and head to the White House, he said. - Associated Press
