Ronnie Davenport, 33, who worked for Hollins-based Lanford Brothers Co., was walking behind a truck that was removing asphalt.
"The truck had finished the first pass and was backing up to do another pass," said Margie Cundiff, human resources adviser for Lanford. "Ronnie had his back to the truck and was walking up to the beginning of the construction area when he was hit."
Cundiff said the truck belonged to J.W. Smith Trucking in Riner, and the driver was subcontracted from another company. She said the truck did have a bell that rings when the truck is put into reverse.
Cundiff said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was immediately notified and is investigating the accident.
